Co-hosts Pati Pierucci and Jenn Hebert share their fly control tips for the summer months:

Pati: “Because I tend to move a lot, I’ve done different things in different places. [When I was in] Virginia, I was very much into the garlic, because the flies there are more biting. Where we are now [in Texas], because it’s a smaller farm, the biggest thing is manure management: getting the manure out and getting it away from the farm. There’s a bunch of acreage next door that we spread the manure on, which has been very helpful. But [I use] fly predators as well, and they’ve been a big thing. If you keep up with them, it really is helpful. But manure removal, I think that’s a very big thing.

Jenn: “Yeah, and I think a lot of people don’t realize how far away you need to have it. If the manure storage area is close enough to the barn that you don’t need a motorized vehicle to get it to the storage area, that means it’s too close…”
