Co-host Pati Pierucci explains some of the allure of her favorite ungulate, along with some fun moose facts:

“I have an absolute crush on moose. It’s the largest and heaviest of all the deer family. Most adult male moose have a very impressive palmate (or open-hand) antlers…they’re just huge…where other deer family members like elk and regular deer have something called the dendric, or twig-like, antlers. What helps these antlers grow is the moose’s diet. They generally eat terrestrial and aquatic type vegetation which includes plants, fruits, shoots from trees…and interestingly enough, they lack upper teeth. They have very sharp incissors in their lower jaws and other teeth, but their tongue and their lips are very tough. When they eat twigs, they use their lower teeth along with their tongue and roof of their mouth to break it up…”
