Lizzy Meyer shares some newfound insights on puppy training, courtesy of her new Australian shepherd, Bravo:

“I feel like I’m being trained to kind of be a better human. [Bravo] is really an incredible teacher…He’s a part-time carpenter, likes gardening, loves digging holes, loves doing all the things that I think would make a lot of people upset, make a lot of trainers frown. But I just try to stay present with him and find the moment he’s doing something right, and I make such a big deal out of that — even if it’s a nanosecond between all the things he’s doing that are not in the correct category — and then I find that if I can just be patient and never, ever react to him, which he taught me in the first, maybe, two hours of Life with Bravo, it goes better.

I mean, it’s like this constant-presence process… just realizing he’s in this incredible, impressionable period, but you can also have fun with him. I just love looking for opportunities to tell him how amazing he is. I don’t ever focus on what he’s doing wrong. He’s done a lot since he was weaned until where he is now. He’s been as patient with me as I’ve been with him. I have a lot of respect for him.”
