“What intrigued me right off the bat is that Bacillus subtilis is a spore-forming bacteria. This is unlike other common probiotic strains like Saccharomyces yeast, Lactobacillus, and Bifidobacterium. Because of its spore form, B. subtilis can survive the harsh gastric environment and reach the small intestine alive. The small intestine is responsible for the digestion of starch, protein, and fat as well as vitamins and minerals. Most nutrient absorption happens in the small intestine.
