Co-host Pati Pierucci shares tips for colic prevention in your horses (and determining whether a horse is colicking to begin with):

“Some of the signs you can look for are: if your horse is rolling, or seems sweaty or agitated…they’re getting down, they’re getting up, and they just seem a little bit different. Sometimes they can start licking at their belly, or licking at their flank, or just lying down. I’ve had a couple that just lie down. They don’t seem all that distressed, they’re just lying down more than they usually would. Another really great sign is that they’re not eating.
If you’re concerned that they’re colicking, you can look at their gums. If you press on it to kind of see the pinkness that comes back after you press on it, or if their gums seem tacky, that may be something that you should be aware of…”
